In August, the Caresfield Cares program supports two causes: National Black Business Month and National Sandwich Month.
Supporting Black-Owned Businesses
To support a local black-owned business, Caresfield is catering lunch from Afro Deli, an immigrant-owned restaurant with four locations across Minneapolis and Saint Paul.

“As a family-owned company, it’s important for us to support local minority-owned businesses,” said Ron Griffith, Caresfield CEO. “We have a number of customers who support Caresfield because we are a small business, and we are pleased to pay it forward during Black Business Month.”
Our friends at Small Business Trends posted an article earlier this year on ways you can support Black-owned businesses. Among their suggestions:
- Go out of your way to shop at Black-owned businesses
- Promote Black-owned businesses on social media
- Set an amount of money in your budget to support Black-owned restaurants and businesses
- Write and post reviews of these restaurants, shops and businesses
- Offer mentorship and resources where possible
We encourage you to support Black-owned businesses as well! In Minnesota, where our corporate headquarters is located, we have an online directory of Black-owned businesses. Try Googling Black-owned businesses in your state.
The Sandwich Project Minnesota
In addition to supporting the Afro Deli, Caresfield is volunteering with the The Sandwich Project Minnesota to celebrate National Sandwich Month. The Sandwich Project is a 501(c)(3) organization that helps feed about 800 people per week through various shelters and food shelves.
The Caresfield team will spend two hours on Aug. 17 making sandwiches for the organization, before delivering them to a local food shelf. The goal is to make 200 sandwiches for families in need.
“Volunteering to make and deliver sandwiches through The Sandwich Project of MN is an easy and fun way to help feed the hungry through local food shelf partners,” said Amy Stephan, The Sandwich Project of MN. “Getting together at work to help support those less fortunate is a great way to bring purpose and connection to your day, while helping many others with your efforts! Even if you can’t volunteer, there is always a need for financial donations to help support the partners we work with.”
Caresfield actively supports employees volunteering their time and talents to improve their community. Each full-time employee receives eight hours of paid volunteer time each year. Learn more about our corporate culture.
