Nearly everyone has been affected by some form of cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This disease is the second most common type of cancer among women in the United States1. About one in eight U.S. women, or about 13 percent, will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime2.
Stats from Breastcancer.org:
- In 2022, an estimated 287,850 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 51,400 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
- About 2,710 new cases are expected to be diagnosed in men in 2022. A man’s lifetime risk is about one in 833.
As someone who works in healthcare purchasing, you can empower your clinicians to help treat these patients through thoughtful selection of skin markers and pink products.
Making Imaging Patients More Comfortable
Skin markers are the first medical product women encounter in a screening room. Clinicians mark the patients’ nipples and any moles or spots to help make the mammogram easier to read. To help patients feel more comfortable, you can consider products like Suremark’s BeautyLine labels. These markers include beautiful designs with butterflies to make markers look less clinical and less scary.

In Oct. 2021, we invited Danielle Earl, COO of Suremark to take part in a CaresTalk Webinar about the role skin markers play in helping patients feel more comfortable during a mammography.
Pink Products to Empower Clinicians
Another avenue you can consider for helping these patients feel more comfortable is pink medical supplies. Throughout October, people wear pink ribbons to honor survivors, remember those lost to the disease and to support the progress we are making together to defeat breast cancer3.

Caresfield offers a number of pink products, including tape, cohesive bandages, lab coats and phlebotomy tourniquets. In addition to being high-quality products, we hope these options show your patients they have the support of your clinicians.
Supporting Cancer Organizations
Even if you don’t intend to purchase products from Caresfield, we encourage you to support organizations who make a difference to both patients and survivors. If you would like to make a financial donation to help those affected by this disease, consider supporting the following organizations:
Cancer impacts nearly everyone in some way. Whether you’ve lost a loved one or have a relative, friend or neighbor fighting the disease, we hope you will join us in raising awareness for this important cause.
